Next Mediation Date: Jan 10, 2013

Greetings!

The Organizing Team just wanted to send you a quick recap and also let you know about some upcoming events:

Mediation: Next mediation date is Jan. 10, 2013!

On November 29 our bargaining team and LBL management teams met for an initial mediation session. Nearly 10 hours were spent in working with the mediator and exchanging contract proposals.  This current effort followed the eight previous bargaining sessions, which began last spring. In their email following the mediation, our bargaining team reported that . . . “Unfortunately, little progress was made.”  We hope a second mediation session will be scheduled sometime in January.

Thank you again to everyone who offered support in many edible, tangible, and written ways. This is hard work for Kevin Bieberich, Jerry Ladovsky, Pamela Camfield, and Vickie Jones --- who also continue to work their regular jobs serving students and staff in our districts.

We can continue to help by staying informed of contract issues. We can participate together in ways that show the LBL Board and administration our concerns for a fair and reasonable contract settlement.  Don’t forget we’ve been working without a contract since July!

Upcoming Events:

·      LBL Board meeting, Wednesday, December 12, 5:30 PM at LBL.

When we show up for the board meeting, the Board members, as well as Susan Waddell, Mary McKay and Angie Peterman, know that we care enough to be there. Remember it was just one year ago that the board gave very large salary increases to these folks while we took a salary freeze!  This week they will be reviewing the authorized use of ESD equipment policy, which might make for an interesting discussion. Join us if you can.

·      Phone calls, Thursday, Dec. 13, 6:00-7:00 PM

Some LBL EA member volunteers will be calling the rest of the members to discuss plans for our December inservice day. This is a chance to find out about ways you can participate to help us reach a contract settlement. Please answer your phone that evening.

Test blog post

We are heading into bargaining mediation, and are working for the best results for working conditions and student learning conditions.

As we work across twelve school districts, we see a variety of education environments for our students. It is surprising that the Linn Benton Lincoln ESD which employs us would vote a double-digit raise for administrators in the headquarters office. Those of us who work directly with the students are paid at or near the bottom compared to our school districts and other ESDs in Oregon.
